Event Date: June 29, 2011 • 11:00 A.M.–5:00 P.M. EST
Keynote Address
Time: 11:15–12:00 P.M.
Introduction: Shana Leonard, Editor-in-Chief, MPMN, Qmed
Today’s medical equipment has evolved into sleek, sophisticated devices that integrate smart technology, portability, and human factors. This keynote address discusses how design has and will continue to evolve in this highly regulated industry segment.

Session 1: Human Factors and Aesthetics
Time: 12:15–1:00 P.M.
Moderated by: Heather Thompson, Editor-in-Chief, MD+DI, MED
A great medical system is only as good as its user interface. If the user can't figure out how to operate the system, or worse, operates it incorrectly, the results could be harmful. With the recent passing of HE75, designers have a path for human factors in device design and development. This session will lead developers down that path, pointing out the obstacles that may be incurred along the way.

Chat Session 1: Design for Portability
Time: 1:15–1:45 P.M.
Moderated by: Brian Buntz, Managing Editor, MD+DI
Portability continues to provide technology challenges and opportunities. Portability requires anew way of thinking about device use. In this chat session, we'll discuss what portability actually means, and how designers are achieving it today.

Session 2: Emerging Technologies for
Next-Generation Imaging Equipment
Time: 2:00–2:45 P.M.
Moderated by: Shana Leonard, Editor-in-Chief,
MPMN
, Qmed
Imaging technologies play a crucial role in today's medicine. That's been made possible by some of the recent semiconductor developments, specifically in the latest analog front-end (AFE) and other semiconductor devices. This session will look at the latest imaging technologies, the roles they play, and where the technology is headed. It may include vendors/academia focused on other resolution-enhancing technology that's unrelated to semiconductors.

Chat Session 2: Telehealth/Telemedicine
Time: 3:00–3:30 P.M.
Moderated by: Bob Michaels, Manager Editor,
MPMN
, Qmed
Telehealth and telemedicine is a part of medical device future. In this session, user can share their ideas and get answers to some of their current design questions.

Session 3: Choosing the Right MCU/MPU and Operating System
Time: 3:45–4:30 P.M.
Moderated by: Rich Nass, Director of Content, UBM Canon Medical Device Media Group
There are so many choices when it comes to microcontrollers and microprocessors it could make you dizzy. Throw in the fact that you must choose the right operating system, and it becomes even more difficult. But making the right choices doesn't have to be as hard as it may seem, if you have the right information at your disposal. And that's exactly what you'll learn by attending this panel session.
